VIDEO: Next generation bionic limbs from DARPA and OSRF have incredible new capabilities
Volunteers on DARPA's Revolutionizing Prosthetics program test out early versions of the DEKA Arm System. One volunteer, who is missing both arms, even uses the advanced prosthesis to drink from a plastic water bottle, an especially difficult task for a prosthetic limb considering that water bottles are often slippery, easily deform, and contain moving contents. An Army volunteer amputee tries out the DEKA Arm System on a rock climbing wall at the Center for the Intrepid. The advanced prosthesis was developed on a rapid schedule under DARPA's Revolutionizing Prosthetics program. DARPA worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs on optimization studies of the arm. #DARPABiT
