The Smart Lid is a disposable lid that provides a visual indicator for hot drinks by turning bright red when the contents are above 120°F (48°C). This helps drinkers avoid unnecessary mouth and hand burns.
The Smart Lid slowly changes back to a dark color as the drink cools, showing that it is safe to consume. It was created by a food service packaging development and manufacturing company based in Sydney, Australia.
The heat sensitive lid warns customers in a much more effective way than the ‘warning hot contents’ message on standard lids. Aimed at cafes and restaurants, the Smart Lid is also available in a home/office pack of forty lids and cups for $29.95.
